Details

Aihole is a historic village also referred to as the "The cradle of Hindu Rock Architecture". It was the first capital of Chalukya empire. It has around 125 stone temples. It was here that the Chalukyas gained the experience of rock architecture which was further applied in places like Pattadakal and Badami. Aihole was first established in 450 AD by Chalulkya emperor Pulakeshi I.

Durga temple

Durga temple was built during the 7th century. The structure is predominantly Dravidian in style of architecture. It is considered one of the masterpieces of the Chalukyan period.

Lad Khan temple

Lad Khan temple is one of the oldest temples of Aihole built in the 5th century. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple was converted into a residence by a person called Lad Khan and hence it is referred to as Lad Khan temple. The temple houses a Shivalinga and a Nandi.
