"Hima" means fog in Kannada "Gopalaswamy" is the name of the Lord Krishna worshiped in the temple. "Betta" means hill. Hence the name "Himavadgopalaswamy Betta". The place is surrounded by lush greenery all around and there is dense fog which forms in this place throughout the year. It is the highest point in the Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary at an altitude of 1450 m.
There is a motorable road upto the top of the hill. However, personal vehicles are not allowed. One has to park the vehicle at the base of the hill. There are KSRTC vehicles which take visitors to the top of the hill and back.
Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta timings - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. The timings is to minimise disturbance to widlife.
The temple is located at the top of the hill. It houses Lord Krishna. It is a great experience to seek the blessings of the Lord amidst the wonderful surroundings.
