Sakrebailu elephant camp is a rehabilitation / training camp for elephants from all parts of Karnataka. The camp is maitained by the forest department of Karnataka. The camp is located on the banks of the river Tunga. The elephants are trained by experience mahouts. A visit to this place is chargeable.
Sakrebailu is one of the few places where human and elephant interaction can get close. Visitors are allowed to be close to these tuskers under the supervision of the forest personnel. Visitors can watch the elephants have a great time in the water early in the morning by 8:30 am. This place hold a special place for kids as they can watch the big creatures upclose.
There are firm rules regarding the conduct of visitors to this camp. They are not allowed to intimidate the animals in any manner. Visitors cannot feed food to the elephants.
Visitors can enjoy a ride on the back of the elephants. It is fun and a must thing to do.
The camp is open on all days of the week between 8:30 am to 11:00 am.

SBC SMET EXP (Train number 16201) - This train is available on all the days of the week. Departure time is 3:30 pm from Bengaluru. Approximate travel time is 5 hours.
TALGUPPA EXP (Train number 16227) - This train is available on all days of the week. Departure time is 11:00 pm from Bengaluru. Approximate travel time is 5 hours 30 minutes.
From Bengaluru, connect to Tumkur road and then to National Highway 4. Continue on this road to connect to National Highway 48 which is Bangalore Shimoga road/ Channarayana-Arisikere road. Continue on National Highway 206. Drive to National Highway 13 in Gajanuru State forest to reach Sakrebailu. This route goes through Kunigal, Yediyur, Channarayanapatna, Arsikere, Tarikere, Bhadravathi, Shimoga to reach Sakrebailu elephant camp.
