Yana situated in the Sahyadri mountain range in the Wester ghats is famous for two black crystalline limestone formations. They have been named as Bhairaveshwara peak and Mohini peak. Geographically ,it is located near Kumta in Uttara Kannada district.
To reach the limestone rock formation, a small trek of 3 kilometers need to be completed. The walk amid the forests feels great. There is a small stream where playing will be fun.
The unusual rock formations distinctly named Bhairaveshwara and Mohini peaks are a major tourist attraction. Photography enthusiasts have a field day here. The rocks are formed by crystalline solid black Karst limestone. Bhairaveshwara peak is 120 meters high while Mohini is relatively smaller with a height of 90 meters.
Yana is a well know pilgrim center. There is a self-manifested Shivalingam below the Bhairaweshwara Shikara(peak). Water drips from the roof on the Shivalingam. During Shivaratri, a Rath yatra ( car festival) is also held. The celebration lasts for 10 days.
Yana is connected through National Highway 17. It is 25 kilometers away from Kumta, 40 kilometers from Sirsi, 52 kilometers from Gokarna and 142 kilometers from Hubli. The best route to reach Yana is from Kumta or Sirsi.
From Sirsi, take a bus which goes through Mathighatta, devahalli and Hegadekatte. Get down at Vaddi cross. From here, Yana is around 7 kilometer walk.

There are regular KSRTC buses which run from Bangalore to Sirsi. From Sirsi, Yana is just 40 kilometers away. There are local buses available to reach Yana. Else, a taxi can be hired.
From Bangalore, connect to Tumkur road. Follow AH 47/ NH 4 to Old National Highway.Take SH 2, Sirsi - Haveri road and SH 69 to reach Yana.
Mysore to Yana distance is 434 km via the National Highway 206. From Mysore, connect to KRS road to National Highway 275 in Metagalli. Drive from State Highway 7, National Highway 206, Siddapur Sirsi road and Kumta Sirsi road to Kodambale. This route goes through Srirangapatna, Shravanabelagola, Shimoga and Siddapura.
