Bekal fort is located in the Kasaragod, which is the northernmost district of Kerala. Bekal fort is a historical structure which has loads of stories to tell. It has witnessed many significant historical events. It is one of the best preserved forts in Kerala. The Bekal fort is a 17th century fort. There is ambiguity regarding who built the fort, Sivappa Naik is believed to have constructed it. Due to it's strategic position, the fort gained a lot of importance during the days of Vijayanagara empire. It was the strong point of Tippu Sultan before being captured by the British.The fort overlooks the sea to provide a great view. There are pathways throughout the fort which offer great views of the beach. There are two sculptures of Theyyam. There is also a rock garden.
Bekal fort is a great place for a picnic. Walkway has been created so that tourists can walk and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding coastline. It provides a panoramic view of the Bekal fort. The structure has great resting facilities, children’s park and toilets for the convenience of the tourists.
The beach is located just outside the bekal fort. It is well lighted so that people can spend some time in the beach after sunset.
